North Carolina FC Travels to Face Defending USL Champions Louisville City FC

March 23, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
North Carolina FC News Release

CARY, N.C. - North Carolina FC will face 2017 USL Champions, Louisville City FC, in a match at Louisville Slugger Field on Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.

North Carolina and Louisville will meet for the first time in series history. The first road trip of the year will not be an easy one for NCFC, as Louisville Slugger Field has been a fortress for the home side. Louisville has won eight home matches in a row and 12 of its last 14 home matches, including its 2018 opener - a 2-0 result over Nashville SC.

NCFC will search for the win with its squad that features plenty of promising returners and new additions. Steven Miller, NCFC's returning leading scorer, found the back of the net in the season opener against Tampa and will look to continue his run of form. Additionally, returnees Austin da Luz, Dre Fortune and DJ Taylor all provided impactful minutes for the club in the opener.

Several new signings also showcased their quality last weekend, as Kyle Bekker helped run the middle of the park for NCFC, while Alex Tambakis made several strong saves between the posts for the club. Up front, Marios Lomis and Daniel Rios both showed signs of quality and pressured the defense in their debuts.

Players To Watch:

No. 11 Niall McCabe

McCabe is the maestro of the midfield for Louisville, and can also contribute on the attack. Scoring a goal last week in the 2-0 win over Nashville, McCabe is dangerous in the middle of the park. Contributing three goals and three assists last season as well, look for McCabe to contribute on both the scoring and assisting this weekend.

No. 31 Steven Miller

Miller has been on fire in the 2018 season so far. After notching two goals in the preseason and adding a goal in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Miller is sure to be a key attacking threat for the remainder of the season.

Last Time Out:

In the season opener, NCFC fell to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in a back and forth affair. The Rowdies kicked off the scoring early on, but an equalizer from a red-hot Steven Miller brought the sides level. Despite NCFC's constant pressure in front of goal, a standout performance from Rowdies goalkeeper Cody Mizell kept the home side at bay. A late first-half penalty and a third goal near the final whistle sealed result for the visitors.

Coming Up Next:

NCFC will travel to face a regional rival in the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, March 31 at 5 p.m. at City Stadium next weekend. The club will return home to host the Indy Eleven on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. for College Night. Tickets are available online or over the phone by calling the North Carolina Football Club Ticket Office at 919-459-8144.
