North Carolina Courage Forward Crystal Dunn Headlines NWSL Team of the Month

CHICAGO - North Carolina Courage forward Crystal Dunn leads the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month, presented by Cutter® Insect Repellent, voted by the NWSL Media Association for the month of June of the 2018 NWSL season.

The U.S. international was voted NWSL Player of the Month and is one of seven players honored two or more times as a member of the NWSL Team of the Month - with North Carolina Courage defender Abby Erceg, Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan, Houston Dash forward Kealia Ohai, Utah Royals FC defender Becky Sauerbrunn, Portland Thorns FC forward Christine Sinclair and North Carolina Courage midfielder McCall Zerboni on the list.

With her fourth consecutive selection this season, Sauerbrunn is the first player to make seven appearances on the Team of the Month for the most by any player.

Four players were honored for the first time as members of the NWSL Team of the Month - with North Carolina Courage defender Merritt Mathias, Utah Royals FC defender Becca Moros Chicago Red Stars midfielder Yuki Nagasato and Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher all making their debut on the squad.

The Courage led the way with four players voted to the Team of the Month, followed by the Red Stars, Royals and Thorns with two each and the Dash with one.

NWSL Team of the Month - June

GK - Alyssa Naeher, Chicago Red Stars: Naeher made six saves and five clearances in two appearances as she recorded one shutout to help the Red Stars earn a draw and a win during the month. The Red Stars registered a 2-0-1 record and a 0.33 goals-against-average on the month.

D - Becca Moros, Utah Royals FC: In five appearances during the month of June, Moros was a key contributor playing 416 minutes and registering 12 tackles won, nine clearances, nine interceptions and led the team of the month with 335 touches.

D - Becky Sauerbrunn, Utah Royals FC: Sauerbrunn was a key figure for Utah as the club surged to a 3-1-1 record in June including a 1-0 win over the previously unbeaten North Carolina Courage. She also had 24 clearances, 11 interceptions and earned four blocks.

D - Abby Erceg, North Carolina Courage: Ecerg enjoyed a strong overall performance in June as she helped the Courage a 2-1-1 record and maintain their spot at the top of the standings. She registered 12 clearances and 10 interceptions, while starting all four games and registering 360 minutes played.

D - Merritt Mathias, North Carolina Courage: Mathias scored two goals in three appearances for the Courage in June. She created six chances for North Carolina during the month to go along with five tackles won, eight clearances and three interceptions.

M - Lindsey Horan, Portland Thorns FC: Horan had two goals to help the Thorns FC go 1-1-2 on the month. The midfielder took 11 shots, created four chances for her team, and won four tackles.

M - Yuki Nagasato, Chicago Red Stars: Nagasato tallied two goals in three games - including goals in the Red Stars' 2-0 win over Washington on June 2 and 1-1 draw against Portland on June 16.

M - McCall Zerboni, North Carolina Courage: Zerboni turned in a steadfast performance in June with 22 tackles (15 won) in three appearances for the Courage - including 13 interceptions, 7 clearances and 241 touches.

F - Kealia Ohai, Houston Dash: Ohai had two goals in three appearances for the Dash in June. She took eight shots and created three chances for Houston during the month to go along with four tackles won and 121 touches.

F - Christine Sinclair, Portland Thorns FC: Sinclair registered one goals and two assists in June but made contributions beyond the scoreboard with her two-way game as she recovered possession 13 times for her team and had 191 touches in four games in the month. She leads the league with seven goals on the season.

F - Crystal Dunn, North Carolina Courage: Dunn tallied two goals and one assist in three games - including two goals as the Courage rallied for a 4-1 victory against the Reign FC on June 23.

The NWSL will return to action tonight as the Portland Thorns FC host Utah Royals FC at 11 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Sky Blue FC take on the Chicago Red Stars at 7 p.m. ET and will be followed by the Orlando Pride versus the Washington Spirit in the NWSL Game of the Week on ESPNEWS at 7:30 p.m. ET. The weekend action will wrap up later that night with Seattle Reign FC against the Houston Dash at 10 p.m. ET.
