CHICAGO - The Red Stars will look to get back on track after a loss when they travel to New Jersey to take on Sky Blue FC. The match will take place on Saturday, July 7, at 6 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the NWSL app and go90 app.
Chicago recently ended their four-game undefeated streak after a 4-1 loss against the North Carolina Courage in a mid-week match. After a 1-0 lead into the second half by North Carolina, the match quickly got out of hand as two goals in two minutes stretched to 3-0. The Courage added one more with minutes left, following by the Red Stars only goal in stoppage time thanks to a Yuki Nagasato penalty kick.
Sky Blue is coming off yet again another loss, totaling 10 this season, with a 3-1 defeat in Utah. Scoring in just the seventh minute, former Red Stars captain Christen Press tallied the lead. Katie Stengel added a brace in a matter of four minutes to give a cushioned lead into the second half. Midway through the second half, Carli Lloyd narrowed the scoreline for Sky Blue, but ended with the only goal for the night.
In both teams last match up, Chicago gave Sky Blue one of its three total points after ending a 1-1 draw in Chicago. Former Red Stars forward Sofia Huerta made the record books by scoring the fifth-fastest goal in NWSL history when her tally hit the net just 44 seconds after kickoff. In the second half, rookie Savannah McCaskill found Sky Blue's first goal of the season and her first career goal in the 78th minute, drawing the game at the end.
