Sanford Mainers News Release
Sanford Mainers (10-8) have won two in a row and in familiar style against the North Adams SteepleCats (8-9), a pass ball in the top of the ninth scored Matt Harris to give the Mainers a 3-2 lead heading to the final frame. Cam Hatch came on to close out the game and earn his second save of the season, he allowed one hit in the process Anthony Papio popped out to Cory Raley stranding John Kinne at first as the Moose sealed the win going 4-0 against North Adams so far this season.
Stevie Berman went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, Cory Raley finished his day 1 for 3 with a sac fly RBI in the 5th inning. Matt Harris came in to pinch hit for Mike Rescigno in the top of the ninth and drilled a leadoff double, then advanced to third on a ground out by Kevin Stypulkowski following a fly out by Walker Pennington, Harris scored on a pass ball to leadoff batter Nick Lovullo. A tough pitch for Mike Hernandez to handle but one he should have come up with in a emotional blow to the SteepleCats and 'Cats fan's.
Jeff Singer pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while fanning 6, Ben Wessel worked a scoreless inning, same for Anthony Ciavarella as the bullpen held North Adams hitless through the 7th and 8th innings. Cam Hatch was called on for the save allowed just 1 hit in the process. Ciavarella (1-1) gets the win, Jim Voyles who relieved his twin brother Ed Voyles gets the loss falling to 0-2.
SteepleCats' Vladimir Gomez finished 2 for 4, Josh Delph went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's all three coming on a bases clearing triple into the right field corner. Dan Hetzel came up limping after going hard into the corner and was replaced as Matt Pagano moved from left field to right field and Sam Balzano came off the bench into left. Balzano went 1 for 2, Dan Hetzel took one at bat before he was replaced and drove an RBI single past North Adams improving his batting average on the season from .213 to .224.
The Mainers left 7 runners on and the SteepleCats left 6 on base. After a weekend on the road Sanford comes home to face the Valley Blue Sox (6-11). Christian Lavoie (1-1, 1.89 ERA) will get the ball for the Moose against Anthony Elia (1-1, 3.24 ERA). First pitch at 6:30 inside historic Goodall Park!
