The Swamp Bats would add an insurance run in the top half of the eighth as Ryan Summers (Louisville) delivered an RBI single to plate Conner Simonetti (Kent State).
The Waves would cut it to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth, as Ryan Blanton (Georgia State) singled to lead off and came around to score on a passed ball. The other run in the inning came on Ferguson's RBI groundout that scored Tim Caputo (Rhode Island).
Lauer got the win for Keene to go to 2-1 on the season, pitching the first six innings, allowing one run on one hit. The southpaw also walked three and struck out seven.
Mark Lukowski (Creighton) served up the two-run shot to Severino and allowed the pair of runs on two hits in an inning of work and was charged with the loss. Lukowski is now 2-1 on the season.
