The Tides pounded out 16 hits as they outlasted the Columbus Clippers 12-9 Friday night at Harbor Park.

In a three hour and 40 minute game that saw 20 runs, 32 hits, five errors, 11 walks, 10 pitchers, 23 men left on base and a run scored in every inning but the ninth, Norfolk matched its season-high with 12 runs while hitting four doubles and two home runs.

Rhyne Hughes paced Norfolk's offense with four hits and three runs scored, while Jeff Salazar added three singles and three RBI. Michael Aubrey also drove home three on a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer, while Robert Andino added a solo homer - his ninth of the season.

Josh Rodriguez finished 3-for-6 with four RBI to pace the Clippers offense, while Nick Weglarz collected three hits and three runs scored. Jordan Brown and Jared Goedert also clubbed back-to-back homers in the first inning off of Norfolk starter Troy Patton, who yielded seven runs - five earned - on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Jim Hoey (1-0) earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, while Dennis Sarfate picked up his 12th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning - the only inning in which a run was not scored.

Jeremy Sowers (1-5) took the loss, as he surrendered four runs on four hits and three walks in 1.2 innings of relief.

Mike Gonzalez, continuing his MLB rehab assignment of a left shoulder strain, allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings of work. The 32-year-old left-hander, whose fastball routinely clocked between 91-93 miles per hour, threw 16 of his 26 pitches for strikes.

The Tides and Clippers will square off again on Saturday night, with first pitch slated for 7:15. Zach Britton (0-1, 2.53) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Jeanmar Gomez (6-8, 5.53).
