Norfolk Tides News Release

August 29, 2007 - Craig Anderson allowed five hits in eight shutout innings, pitching the Tides to a 1-0 win over the Charlotte Knights Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

Anderson (7-3) was brilliant, walking two and striking out three to help the Tides pull within two games of the .500 mark. The victory was his 12th on the season between Double-A Bowie and Norfolk, and he now leads all minor leaguers in that category.

Over his last 11 starts, the 26-year-old southpaw is 6-1 with a 2.36 ERA (18-ER, 68.2-IP).

Tides reliever Francis Beltran worked around a leadoff infield single in the 9th inning to pick up his 7th save of the season.

Charlotte knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (5-15) nearly matched Anderson, allowing just one run on three hits in eight innings of work. The Tides plated the only run of the contest in the third inning, when Alberto Castillo led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a two-out triple off the bat of Brandon Fahey.

Castillo has now reached base in 28 consecutive home games, and he has also hit safely in each of his last 15 contests at Harbor Park.

The game was played in two hours and six minutes, which was the quickest game at Harbor Park this season.

Norfolk and Charlotte will conclude their season series on Thursday night, as the Tides take on the Knights at 7:15. Jim Johnson (6-11, 3.93) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against Charlotte southpaw Heath Phillips (12-7, 4.31).
