NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Tides (33-51) came back from a 2-0 deficit to edge past the Gwinnett Stripers (47-36) by a 3-2 score Tuesday night in game two of the three-game series at Harbor Park.
Scoring Recap: The Stripers scored their only runs in the top of the first inning. Rafael Ortega singled off Norfolk starting pitcher Luis Ortiz to put the first run on the board. Later in the inning, Travis Demeritte scored from third on a throwing error by Ortiz. The Tides cut the lead in the bottom of the first as Christopher Bostick scored from third on a wild pitch by Gwinnett starter Huascar Ynoa. Bostick (10) later delivered the winning blow, a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to give Norfolk a 3-2 lead.
Stripers Stats: Ynoa (L, 1-2) pitched 5.2 innings and surrendered three runs on eight hits while striking out five. Ben Rowen and Dan Winkler combined for 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Alex Jackson, Luis Marte, and Sean Kazmar Jr. all went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Stripers. Ortega had the only RBI on a 1-for-4 night.
Tides Stats: Ortiz (W, 3-7) worked 5.0 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits. Tayler Scott went 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Tanner Scott (S, 2) pitched the final 2.0 innings and struck out five of the six batters he faced.
Postgame Notes: Ortega's 1-for-4 night extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Marte's hitting streak is now up to eight games. Ryan LaMarre was 0-for-4 and saw his hitting streak end at eight.
