GAME TWOSDAY: Louisville and Indianapolis meet in game two of the series on Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field, with the Bats playing in 3 consecutive one-run games coming into play. Right-hander Tejay Antone is slated to start for the Bats in his Louisville Slugger Field debut, as the Bats look to win the penultimate game of their season-long 8-game homestand.
AGAINST INDIANAPOLIS: On the heels of Monday night's loss, the Bats have now dropped 4 in a row to the Indians, and 8 of their last 9, after going 4-3 during the clubs' first 7 matchups of the season. Indy has outscored Louisville this season by a narrow 72-67 advantage, but owns an 11-5 record against the Bats, including 6-1 at Louisville Slugger Field. Six of the 7 games at LSF have been one-run games.
O'5RADY: Louisville's Brian O'Grady has been tearing the cover off the ball all season long, hitting 2 more home runs last night to bring his season total to a club-leading 19. O'Grady went deep multiple times in a game for the fifth time this season, breaking a single-season franchise record. LOU's had Brandon Cromer (1999), Mike Hessman (2013) and Josh VanMeter (2019) register 4 multi-homer games in a season, but O'Grady is the first player to record 5 of them. O'Grady has as many, or more, individual multi-homer games as 5 IL clubs: DUR (5), PAW (5), ROC (4), TOL (3) and IND (2).
TRANSACTIONS: Today the Bats reinstated from the injured list OF Rob Refsnyder, who landed on the 7-day IL on June 22 (retroactive to June 21) with a right hamstring strain. Also, Louisville placed OF Scott Schebler on the injured list, retroactive to June 30.
- Since coming over in a trade on April 7 from Arizona, Refsnyder is batting .327 with 33 runs, 15 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, 38 RBI and 25 walks in 59 games for the Bats, getting on base at a .396 clip with a .918 OPS. His batting average ranks third in the IL, behind a pair of Durham Bulls (Kean Wong, Jake Cronenworth).
400 RUNS: The Bats scored their 400th run of the season last night when O'Grady homered in the second inning, his first of 2 homers in the game. Last season, LOU scored its 400th run of the season on July 21 at Syracuse in the team's 95th game of the season, when Blake Trahan scored on a D.J. Peterson single.
PINPOINT CONTROL: Louisville pitching has combined to walk just 3 batters over its last 3 games, and just one batter in its last 2 games. In terms of not walking batters, it's the Bats' best 3-game stretch since July 31-Aug. 2, 2018, when LOU pitching walked 0, 1 and 2 batters respectively, with the Bats going 3-0 in those games.
R0MAN0: Right-hander Sal Romano was quite literally unhittable in his first start of the 2019 season, going 4.0 hitless innings without allowing a walk, striking out 5 batters on 50 pitches and 34 strikes. Romano allowed just one baserunner, on a dropped third strikeout wild pitch. He's the first LOU pitcher to not allow a hit in his start since RHP Domingo Tapia pitched 2.0 hitless innings on July 24, 2018 in game 2 of a doubleheader at Buffalo at LSF.
ONE-RUN FUN: The Bats have played in 3 straight one-run games for the second time this season (May 21-23 vs. IND). With a one-run game tonight, it would be the first time LOU's played in 4 consecutive one-run games since August 4-8 last season.
MULTI-HOMER GAMES: Louisville had yet another individual multi-homer effort with O'Grady hitting 2 home runs last night, their 18th as a ball club this season, leading the International League. The Bats have more individual multi-HR efforts (18) than the rest of their division combined (15; COL: 10, TOL: 3, IND: 2).
