Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY. - Indianapolis Indians starter Alex McRae limited the Louisville Bats to just two runs over his six innings, but Brian O'Grady clubbed a three-run home run in the seventh to break the game open in the Bats' 6-1 victory over the Tribe on Tuesday night. It marked just the second defeat for Indy at Louisville Slugger Field this season.
Louisville (31-53) used a two-out rally to gain a lead in the first inning they would not relinquish. Josh VanMeter lined a single to right field, then scored when Aristides Aquino doubled to left.
VanMeter helped expand the lead with his second hit of the night in the third. Christian Colon opened the frame with a double. He came around to score when VanMeter hit another liner to right field. The Indiana native would finish the contest with three hits and was never retired by Tribe pitching.
Indianapolis (42-40) got right back in the game with a run in the fourth. Will Craig smashed a two-out double to left field to extend the inning. Trayvon Robinson then scorched a ball through the right side of the infield to drive Craig home and cut Louisville's lead to 2-1.
McRae (5-5) battled throughout the night and held the Bats to just the two runs over his six innings when he exited. While he conceded nine hits, McRae issued just one free pass to keep the Tribe within striking distance.
With McRae out of the game, the Bats pushed the game out of reach. With two men aboard and two outs, O'Grady clubbed his third home run of the series. It cleared the right-field wall and settled atop the roof of a party area for the three-run homer. Louisville salted the lead when they added the game's final run in the bottom of the eighth.
Tejay Antone (2-1) scattered seven hits and walked only one batter to earn the victory. McRae was handed the loss despite the quality start.
Despite the setback, the Indians are 6-2 at Louisville Slugger Field this season. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night at 6:45 p.m. The Tribe returns to Victory Field on Thursday, July 4 to open the final homestand before the All-Star break.
