CHARLESTON- Charleston RiverDogs right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi has been named the South Atlantic League (SAL) Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Noesi, who has started the 2009 season with a 27.1 inning scoreless streak, held the Lexington Legends hitless over seven innings on May 13 at Applebee's Park while retiring the first 19 batters he faced. The 6'2" Dominican native walked only one batter and struck out seven in a masterful 64-pitch performance.

"Hector has done an outstanding job working his way from the bullpen back into our starting rotation," said RiverDogs manager Torre Tyson. "He is having a great season thusfar, and we are excited to see where he goes from here."

Signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2004, Noesi (1-0) leads the SAL with a 0.00 ERA in nine total appearances this season. Since joining the rotation on May 7, he has allowed just four hits in 15.1 innings pitched in three starts.

For the 2009 season, Noesi has permitted a microscopic 11 base hits in those 27.1 innings while walking only four batters and fanning 35.

Noesi becomes the first Charleston pitcher to be named league Player of the Week since Jairo Heredia garnered those laurels in July 2008.
