KANNAPOLIS, NC - Terrence Engles managed to keep the Intimidators offense in check on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium as Hagerstown beat Kannapolis 2-1.

Engles (4-1) claimed victory in his fourth straight start, firing seven shutout innings. He kept the Intimidators hitless for the first 5 1/3 until Brandon Short broke up the no-hitter with an infield single.

Kannapolis (18-19) dropped below .500 for the first time all season in the loss.

The Intimidators fell behind despite a terrific start from Greg Infante (2-2). The right-hander gave up just one unearned run in seven innings, matching his longest outing of the season. The Suns tallied against Infante in the fifth inning when Steven Souza scored on a Drew Garcia throwing error.

But trailing 2-0 in the eighth, Kannapolis applied the pressure with a Jon Gilmore solo home run off of Carlos Peralta. The Intimidators made the Suns (18-16) sweat in the ninth as well, putting the tying run at third base. But closer Osvaldo Rodriguez got Seth Loman to fly out to rightfield to end the ballgame and secure his sixth save of the season.

Hagerstown added an important insurance run off of Drew O'Neil in the top of the eighth. Aaron Seuss' sacrifice fly scored Steve Lombardozzi for what proved to be the winning run.
