July 30, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
A clutch eighth inning RBI single by Jhonkensy Noel propels the Akron RubberDucks to the 4-3 victory of the Harrisburg Senators on Saturday night at Canal Park. Cleveland Guardians outfielder Oscar Gonzalez played eight innings going 1-for-3 with a run scored, double, RBI, walk and two defensive putouts in right field in his fourth rehab appearance with the RubberDucks.
Turning Point
With the game tied at three heading into the bottom of the eighth, Akron looked to push a run across and pull ahead. Brayan Rocchio started the inning off on the right foot, making it to second on a fielding error by the Harrisburg first baseman. The next two batters would fail to advance Rocchio, before George Valera was intentionally walked, putting Jhonkensy Noel in the driver seat to push an Akron run across. Noel lined the first pitch up the middle to drive Rocchio home, putting Akron up 4-3 heading into the ninth inning.
Mound Presence
Joey Cantillo pitched well in the shortened start today. Cantillo finished with three innings of scoreless work, striking out four batters. Manuel Alvarez followed with two scoreless innings. Eli Lingos worked two innings and surrendered two runs. Thomas Ponticelli tossed two innings, giving up one run.
Duck Tales
In the fourth inning, Rocchio led off with a double and was driven in with an Oscar Gonzalez double to dead center to give Akron the lead 1-0. Valera and Noel combined for back-to-back singles, scoring Gonzalez making it 2-0. Daniel Schneemann hit a sac-fly to right field allowing Valera to score and increasing Akron's lead to 3-0 through four innings.
