BLAINE,MN -- After coming from behind to win two straight games with dominant third periods, the Bismarck Bobcats couldn't muster a comeback against the Johnstown Tomahawks: falling 3-1 Saturday to wrap up the 2013 Easton NAHL Showcase at Schwan Super Rink.

With the loss, the Bobcats finish the Showcase with a 2-2-0 record for the second time in four years under head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie.

The Cats fell behind 1-0 just 4:03 into Saturday's contest as Johnstown's Joe Drabin lifted a transition backhander over the glove of Bobcat netminder Aaron Nelson.

It would take more than a period, but Johnstown would eventually double their lead to 2-0 as Matt Meier collected a back-door pass from Drabin and fired a wrist shot off the far post and in past Nelson with 6:50 to go in the middle frame.

Second-year veteran Huba Sekesi dialed up a power play response for the Bobcats in the final minute of the second, wrenching home a Filip Starzynski rebound for his cirst goal as a Bobcat, chopping the Tomahawks' lead to 2-1 heading into the second intermission.

Though the Bobcats spent the first three games of the regular season outscoring their opposition 8-2 in the third period, luck was not on their side Saturday. Fate intervened at the Cats' expense in the final frame: while the Hawks were killing a Dakoda Menslage interference penalty, defender Shane Cuckavich zipped a long clear that was headed wide of the Bobcat net, but deflected off the stick of Nelson, off the post and in, boosting Johnstown to a 3-1 lead.

Following Cuckovich's insurance tally, the Bobcats stymied their own ability to rally by taking four consecutive penalties.

Though the Cats were able to create extended possession in the Johnstown zone after their final penalty released at 2:52, they could not break Tomahawk goalie Colin DeAugustine--younger brother of 2010-12 Bobcat alumnus Frank--and saw their short two-game win streak halted.

Nelson fell to 2-2-0 despite 24 saves; DeAugustine turned aside 29 Bobcat attempts to improve to 2-1-1 on the young season.

The Bobcats return home to open their home schedule at 7:15 PM Friday against the Wenatchee Wild with Coors Light Opening Night at the VFW Sports Center.
