Soo Eagles News Release
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka RoadRunners defeated the Soo Eagles in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).
The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.
Topeka's Drew Vogler was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Vogler managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.71 prior to the game.
The RoadRunners' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo power plays. With 33 shots on target during the contest, Topeka exceeded the 26.0 shots it averages per game this year.
The RoadRunners were led by Peter Halash, who finished with one goal. Halash scored on the power play 5:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. A tripping penalty on Pat Thompson had put Topeka on the power play. Mike Gornall provided the assist. More assists for Topeka came via Kevin Fitzgerald, who had one.
Soo put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.7 it averages per game. The Eagles could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.
Soo was led by Ryan Urso, who scored the team's only goal. Urso scored 6:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brad Pung picked up the assist.
The RoadRunners incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Eagles' Skoog Paige stopped 31 shots out of the 32 that he faced.
