Amarillo Bulls News Release

BLAINE, MN - The Amarillo Bulls' final game at the North American Hockey League Showcase was a wild one that in the end didn't go their way.

The Janesville Jets scored just 34 seconds into overtime and beat the Bulls 6-5. Amarillo finished with a record at the showcase at 1-2-1, and didn't get at least two wins for the first time in four years of attending the event.

It was a better start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as they dictated the pace early on. Tyler Gernhofer gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead when he fired a rocket past goaltender Brock Kautz. Each team had seven shots on goal.

The Bulls went to work early in the second with back-to-back goals in a short three minute span. Roman Ammirato made it 2-0 after the Bulls crashed the front of the net. Brett Szajner and Carter Penzien picked up assists on the play. Just over a minute later, Mitchell Vanderburgh scored his first NAHL goal on a feed from Matt Sieckhaus and Kyle Gattelaro.

Special teams took over after that, and the Janesville Jets climbed back into the game with a pair of power play goals to close the deficit to 3-2 after 40 minutes. The Bulls outshot the Jets 15-13 in the middle stanza.

It was a wild third period with a five goal outburst between the two teams. Janesville took the lead with a pair of goals in seven minutes. The tying goal was even strength and the go ahead marker was via the power play.

The Bulls tied the game 4-4 with a power play goal of their own. Matt Sieckhaus found the back of the net from Brady Ferguson at 11:14. Just over a minute later, the Jets retook the lead 5-4 on a play in front of the net. The Bulls rallied again with the tying goal as Tyler Gernhofer fired his second of the game at 15:29 from Roman Ammirato and Carter Penzien.

The two teams concluded regulation on a furious pace with the Jets having a power play in the final two minutes and failing to score.

In overtime, the Bulls couldn't clear the zone and the Jets were able to get to the front of the net and slip one past the far post to win the game.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Janesville Jets 31-25 including 11-9 in the third period.
