No-Hit Bid Ends with Three Sacramento Homers

August 28, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Sacramento spoiled Chris Capuano's no-hit bid in the sixth inning with three home runs, part of a five-run inning that lifted the River Cats to a 6-2 win Wednesday night over Tucson at Raley Field. The win was Sacramento's 90th of the season.

Tucson had built a 2-0 lead over five innings for Capuano who had held the River Cats hitless. Brian Sellier walked to start the sixth. Jermaine Dye, on a rehab from Oakland, lofted a two-run homer just fair and just over the fence in lift to tie the game at 2. After a ground out, Bobby Crosby ripped his 21st homer to put Sacramento in front 3-2. Before the inning was over Mike Edwards hammered a two-run homer to complete the five-run inning.

Capuano (9-5) failed to become the second Tucson pitcher with ten wins this season. The left-hander pitched seven innings, allowed just five hits and six runs while striking out four.

Tucson needs to win three of its remaining five games to have a winning season.

Tucson fell to 70-69. The Sidewinders and River Cats will finish off the five-game series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. from Raley Field. John Patterson (9-4 2.50) will start for Tucson against Sacramento's Justin Duchscherer (13-2 3.28).
