April 16, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
Second baseman Tony Thomas, playing in just his second game of the season, smashed a pair of home runs to power the PawSox to a 4-3 win in Syracuse on Monday night. Thomas blasted a solo shot in the third and a two run homer in the fifth. Both were surrendered by starter and loser Tanner Roark (0-3). In the sixth inning, Ryan Lavarnway hit his first round tripper of the season. It came in his thirty ninth at bat. In 2011, Lavarnway hit 34 home runs in stops in Portland, Pawtucket and Boston.
Ross Ohlendorf, the reigning pitcher of the week in the International League, improved to 2-0. Ohlendorf cruised through 6 shutout innings, before running into some seventh inning trouble. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned). Garrett Mock struck out the side to put out the fire in the seventh. In the eighth, lefty Andrew Miller bounced back from a subpar outing on Sunday. The Boston reliever struck out the side on 14 pitches (11 strikes). It is scheduled to be his final outing of his rehab assignment (hamstring). Junichi Tazawa pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.
The series continues on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. Justin Germano (1-1) faces Yunesky Maya (1-1).
