INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks gathered another two points atop the ECHL standings with their 4-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday night. The Mavericks, now 14-2-0-1, are riding a nine-game win streak heading into their next two home games on Friday Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The Quad City Mallards unsettled the home crowd when Alex Gudbranson scored just fifty-seven seconds into play to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead. Matt Neal and Kevin Henderson assisted on the play. Mavericks forward, Sebastien Sylvestre evened the scoreboard at 6:36 when he notched a power-play goal with the help of Rocco Carzo and Bryce Aneloski, sparking the Mavs into their winning ways.
Carter Verhaghe, back in his first game for the Mavericks since he was reassigned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) on Nov. 1, broke the tie game in the second period with his first Mavs goal at 10:53. Tyler Barnes and Jesse Root were credited with the helpers.
Then in the third period, Barnes made a move of his own, taking a perfect pass from teammate Verhaeghe to expand the Mavs lead 3-1 over the visiting Mallards. Barnes' ninth goal of the year came only forty-six seconds into the third frame.
Missouri was not finished putting pressure on Quad City net-minder, Brody Hoffman, taking advantage of a late power-play opportunity to put their fourth goal of the night to the twine at 18:06. Mavericks leading goal-scorer, Jesse Root, made the tally, aided by Kane Lafranchise and Verhaeghe.
Goaltender Josh Robinson made twenty-five saves through sixty minutes of regulation hockey and maintains his perfect at home record.
