Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters and manager Gary Gaetti announced right-handed pitcher Michael Nix has rejoined the club after spending the 2012-14 seasons in Sugar Land. Nix ranks in the top five in starts, innings pitched, strikeouts and wins in Sugar Land history.
Nix, 32, holds a 15-14 record all-time with the Skeeters to go along with a 3.43 ERA in his three previous seasons with Sugar Land. The 11th-round selection by the Braves out of Auburn University is second behind Matt Wright for career strikeouts with 174. Earlier this season Nix went 10-4 with a 4.03 ERA in Mexico with the Saraperos de Saltillo. He boasts a 62-46 record over his 11-year career with a 3.87 ERA.
The signing of Nix coincides with the trade of pitcher Roy Merritt to Somerset to fulfill a prior trade obligation. The southpaw went 7-5 with the Skeeters along with a 2.52 ERA. Merritt recorded 10-straight quality starts from June 18-August 10.
The Skeeters continue the 2015 campaign against Somerset this evening as they return to the friendly confines of Constellation Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6. Fans can follow along with the action on ESPN3.com. Season tickets and special game plans are still available for the 2015 season.
