Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A late rally in the ninth fell short as the Modesto Nuts lost 7-5 against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.
With the Nuts (5-12; 31-56) down five entering the bottom of the ninth, Collin Ferguson smashed a solo home run with one out to get the rally brewing. It was his team-leading tenth of the year.
Dom Nunez walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Max White reached on an infield single. He scored later when Josh Fuentes smacked a RBI single to knock reliever Trevor Seidenberger out of the game. Fuentes went 2-for-4 with three-RBI and a double.
Trey Wingenter (S, 1/1) came out of the Storm (9-8; 41-46) bullpen with two outs and the tying run at the plate. He struck out the only man he faced to shut the door.
Yency Almonte (L, 5-7) worked six innings and struck out six to take the league-lead in strikeouts with 98. He surrendered five runs, four earned on six hits.
Zech Lemond (W, 2-3) recorded his best start of the year working 7.2 innings allowing only two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Game three of the four-game set is at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday night at John Thurman Field. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:00 p.m. Listen live online.
