
Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short for Cardinals against Crosscutters

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) were upended by the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters 7-5. New Jersey fell to 24-36 as the Crosscutters ascend to 38-22. Winning pitcher Yoann Torrealba (6-1) acquired the win, while Jordan Pals (1-2) absorbed the Cardinals loss. Pals threw 4.1 innings, yielding 12 hits, 6 runs, all earned.
The Cardinals battled back from a 6-0 deficit in the fifth frame. Casey Grimm was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Melvin Falu reached on a fielders choice and Grimm moved to second base. Then it was Daylon Monette who singled in Grimm. Then the Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Chirs Tuttle led off with a walk. Then Kevin Estrada singled and Kainoya Obrey struck out. With one out Casey Grimm then singled in Tuttle. Falu fouled out to the first baseman to make it two outs. Monette then walked to load the bases and this is where the rally started. Omar Pena singled to knock in Estrada. Joe Mather hit a two run double to score in Casey Grimm and Daylon Monette. Andrew Ginther grounded out to end the game with the tying run on second base.
Casey Grimm went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Joe Mather was 2 -3 with 2 doubles and 2 runs batted in.
The Cardinals end their homestand tomorrow against the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:15 p.m. Tomorrow night batting helmets will be handed out courtesy of Reds Deli, Internet Café, Pepsi Cola, Cunico Chiropractic, Daily Record and its also the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame Reunion Night sponsored by the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame.
