
Ninth Inning Comeback Seals Series Win in Joliet

JOLIET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(17-21) trailed by two heading into the final inning but sent 12 men to the plate, scoring seven runs, to come from behind over the Joliet Slammers(21-18), 8-3
The Slammers took a 2-0 lead in the first on a Trenton Hill RBI single, and he also scored on an error. In the second, Luke Lowery was hit by a pitch and Alexis Rivera walked. Three batters later, Noah McGowan laced an RBI single up the middle to cut the Bums' deficit in half. Joliet added a run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice by R.J. Thompson to make it 3-1.
In the deciding ninth inning, Steve Lohr led off with a walk then Alec Olund doubled to move him to third. McGowan tied the game up, scoring Lohr and Olund, on a triple to right-center field. Josh Hauser gave Traverse City the lead on an RBI single, and the rally was on. Arby Fields got hit by a pitch, Isaac Benard slashed a double down the left field line to score Hauser, and Will Kengor plated Fields and Benard with a line drive single up the middle. After Lowery was hit by a pitch, Steve Lohr pushed an RBI single to left, to close out the scoring.
Matt Williams picked up the win with a solid eight innings of work. He struck out two and allowed single to improve his record to 1-1. Keegan Long is struck with the loss to drop to 2-2. He went one inning, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk. After Justin Finan went five innings in a no-decision start, Tyler Barrs, Williams, and John Michael Knighton closed out game without giving up another run. With today's win, the Beach Bums took two of three from the Slammers, and went 5-4 on the nine game road trip.
On Wednesday, the Beach Bums finally return to Wuerfel Park from this nine game road trip for a doubleheader against the Lake Erie Crushers. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:05pm, there will be two seven-inning contests, and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 4:45pm.
