Lake County Fielders News Release
Edmonton, AB - July 31, 2011- The Fielders put up a good battle in a back and forth contest, but came up short as they fell to the Capitals to wrap up their four game series in Edmonton.
Despite having rather quiet bats in their previous three games of the series, the Fielders came alive in game four. To start off the second inning left fielder Colin Moro doubled and was brought in on a single by Zack Getsee to give the Fielders the early 1-0 lead. Then, in the fourth, Chris Brown led off the inning with a solo shot to put the Fielders up 2-0. Starter Jeremy Brewer, who had pitched three innings of shutout ball, then gave up a solo homerun to Matt Linden to lead off the Capitals half of the inning to cut the Fielders lead in half.
Both offenses were shut down until the sixth inning when Chris Brown again led off with his second homerun of the day to put another run on the board for the Fielders. The Caps wouldn't back down as they too added a run in their half of the inning on a single off the bat of Enrique Cruz to plate Lou Santengelo who walked earlier in the inning.
The Fielders took a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh inning but again, Linden proved to be the thorn in the Fielders side in the game as he stepped up to the plate and belted a grand slam to right field to put the Capitals ahead 6-3.
Heading into the ninth and down by three the Fielders would put up a fight making for an exciting end to game. Capitals closer Bartolome Fortunato gave up back-to-back walks to Moro and David Coleman to lead off the inning and both base runners were brought in on singles by Alan Rick and Sam Judah respectively to put the Fielders within just one run of tying the game. Fortunato was then removed from the game as David Davidson took over and promptly shut down the Fielders threat, retiring the next three batters in order to seal the victory and the series sweep.
The Lake County Fielders will return home to Zion, IL to take on the Calgary Vipers in a series now scheduled to being on Wednesday evening. Due to poor field conditions the Tuesday contest will be reschedule to a TBD time and date. All games can be heard on 1220 AM WKRS, wkrs1220.com, or at fieldersbaseball.com.
