
Roadrunners Swept by Thunder in Double Dip

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the double-header to the McAllen Thunder Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with scores of 7-1 and 13-5 extending their losing streak to seven games.
In game one, Rashad Ford (4-2) allowed one run in six innings while scattering four hits and striking out three for his fourth win of the season.
The Thunder grabbed the lead for Ford in the top of the second. Brian Nichols and Wilson Batista had back-to-back singles to start the inning. One out later, Adam Matos hit an RBI single that allowed Nichols to score making it 1-0.
Yaibel Tamayo led off the top of the fourth with a single and then came into score on an RBI triple by Nichols. Batista then drove in Nichols from third with a sacrifice fly to center field that extended the Thunder's lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth, Tamayo delivered an RBI single that allowed Zach Mandelblatt to score. A fielding error then allowed Antoin Gray and Tamayo to score pushing McAllen's lead to 6-0.
After McAllen took the 7-0 lead in the top of the sixth, the Roadrunners got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Robert Matlock hit an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Wellington Dotel to score making it 7-1 Thunder.
Brian Smith then pitched a scoreless ninth giving McAllen the 7-1 victory and extending the Roadrunners losing streak to six games.
In game two, Edinburg grabbed the first lead in the bottom of the third. R.J. Harris led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. Stantrel Smith followed with an RBI single that scored Harris from second. One out later, Wellington Dotel hit an RBI single that drove in Smith from second. Osiel Flores then followed with an RBI double down the third base line that allowed Dotel to score making it 3-0 Roadrunners.
The Thunder responded in the top of the fourth with five straight hits which led to five runs in the inning giving them the 5-3 lead.
McAllen added four more runs in the top of sixth and four more in the top of the seventh pushing their lead to 13-3.
Edinburg added a couple of runs in the bottom of the seventh with a RBI singles by R.J. Harris and C.J. Beatty which made it 13-5.
Frank James (4-1) went the distance and allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits while striking out two.
The Roadrunners and Thunder play the fourth game of this five-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Toro Trevino (4-4) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
