Washington, D.C. (July 1, 2010) - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today that the Ninth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by GEICO, raised more than $30,000. Proceeds from the event will benefit the charity's three signature programs - United Reads, Kicks for Kids and the United Soccer Club - all of which use soccer to place an emphasis on literacy, healthy lifestyles and life skills for underserved youth in the greater D.C. area.

"The United Celebrity Golf Tournament is one of our most successful and fun events of the year," said Executive Director Kate McPhail. "Not only does it give our fans, sponsors and corporate supporters a great reason to spend the day on the course, working on their golf game alongside their favorite D.C. United players, it also raises money for a great cause."

The event drew more than 140 golfers to the new 1757 Golf Club in Virginia for a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start on Monday, June 28. KMG Hauling won the tournament, with Wells Fargo and Peter Magellan & Friends rounding out the top three, respectively.

Participants in this year's event played alongside the 2010 D.C. United players and coaches as well as United President Kevin Payne, General Manager Dave Kasper, former United player A.J. Wood, Comcast SportsNet TV personality Russ Thaler, WJFK Junkie John Auville, DC101 personality Kyle Benham, and University of Maryland Head Coach Sasho Cirovski. Thaler also served as the night's emcee.

In addition to the presenting sponsors, United for D.C. benefited from the generous assistance of hole sponsors Clark Construction, Arent Fox and Volkswagen.
