Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - A league-high and possible league-record (though not confirmed by Texas League President Tom Kayser at the time of this release) nine members of the Corpus Christi Hooks have been selected for this year's Texas League All-Star Game on June 20 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Four position players - third baseman Josh Bonifay, shortstop Ben Zobrist and outfielders Josh Anderson and Hunter Pence - were named starters for the South Division team. Catcher J.R. House is the team's reserve catcher and starting pitchers Matt Albers and Juan Gutierrez, middle reliever Paul Estrada and closer Jailen Peguero were also voted to the squad.

Corpus Christi manager Dave Clark, pitching coach Joe Slusarski, hitting coach John Tamargo Jr., and trainer Jamey Snodgrass will lead the South squad.

Currently, Pence leads the Texas League and all of Minor League Baseball with 16 home runs and is in the league's top five in six other offensive categories. Anderson is second in the league with 17 stolen bases and 69 hits. Zobrist leads the Hooks and is fourth in the league in on-base percentage (.418). Bonifay is batting .254 with eight home runs. House is tops in the league in batting average (.346) and hits (75).

Pitchers Matt Albers, who boasts a 2.39 ERA, and Juan Gutierrez, the league leader in strikeouts (70), are both five-game winners. Paul Estrada is third in the league in strikeouts with 67. Hooks closer Jailen Peguero's 12 saves are third in the TL. Peguero has allowed only two earned runs in 29 2/3 innings.

Also selected to the South squad were three players from Midland, three from San Antonio and five from Frisco. The South Division All-Stars will take on the North Division All-Stars at Kavanaugh Field in Little Rock.

The All-Star rosters were chosen in balloting by league managers, broadcasters and beat writers. Starting pitchers for the game will be named at a later date by the managers.
