Nighthawks Continue to Roll

January 31, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release

Rockville, MD. The ABA Maryland Nighthawks continued to roll through the regular season with back-to-back wins over the weekend. On Saturday, Jan 28, the Nighthawks defeated the strong Pittsburgh Xplosion 122-99. Next up on Sunday was a very tough and improving Strong Island Sound team. After trailing much of the game, the Nighthawks put on a fourth quarter scoring frenzy led by sharpshooter Frank "The Sniper" McQueen to win a close game 109-103.

The Nighthawks are now 18-5 for the season and are ranked among the league's best teams. The team travels to Montreal, Canada on Friday, Feb 3 to play the Montreal Matrix and their next home game will be on Sunday, Feb 19 at 6pm to play host to Darryl Dawkins' Newark Express. According to owner Tom Doyle, "Every game counts as we fight for playoff positions; we are taking this very seriously. But then, so are all of the other tough East Coast teams - Rochester, Florida, Newark, Strong Island, Harlem - even Buffalo and Montreal are good and Baltimore is surprising. Not easy by any means." Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
