
Maywood Pleased With Aoshen Olympian Success

Maywood, CA. The City of Maywood, California with a population of approximately 28,000 has been extremely pleased with the success of the Aoshen Olympians professional basketball team. The Olympians are the first professional team in the Southeast area of Los Angeles since the Vernon Lions professional baseball team relocated in 1925.
"The City of Maywood's staff has created a strong working relationship with the General Manager George Pickeering and the team members. The Aoshen Olympian of Maywood has a winning record and the city looks forward to a successful playoff run in February and March," stated City Administrator Edward Ahrens.
All five elected politicians from Maywood Mayor Thomas Martin, Mayor Pro Tem Filipe Aguirre, Councilmembers Samuel Pena, George Martinez, Sergio Calderon, City Attorney Gary Reisman and Ahrens have attended games as well as former and current pro athletes including Derrel Thomas and Rudy Law, formerly of the LA Dodgers; ex pro boxers Howard Smith, Dub Huntleny, Lonnie Bennett, Juan Mendoza, Matt Blow, Charlie Powell and former NFL player Tyrone Rodgers, former NBA player Larry Spriggs, current undefeated pro boxer Urbano Antillon, boxing promotor Ray Alcorta and Bill Berka of the Los Angeles Lakers (Director of Scouting).
