Pittsfield, Mass. - Rox C Chris Grossman's two-out double in the eighth inning plated two runs and broke a tie to give Brockton the eventual victory, 6-5, over the Pittsfield Colonials on Saturday night at Wahconah Park. The win is Brockton's ninth in a row, which is their second nine-gamer of the year.
The Rox (16-9 second half, 43-29 overall) began the scoring in the first inning, bringing home runs in the first for the sixth time in seven games. CF Chris Valencia began the game with a walk which was followed by 2B John Parke's first career base hit.
After 1B Shawn Williams walked to load the bases, DH Melvin Falu brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly for his 57th RBI of the season to lead the team. RF Keith Brachold followed with a run-scoring double and the next batter, Grossman, hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Brockton went up 4-0 on LF Mike Conroy's two-out double.
The Colonials (14-12, 34-39) started to chip away in the second inning, plating two runs on two hits. LF Rafael Cabreja led of with a single and then stole second base. He scored on DH Donny Leon's double. SS Matt Nandin later added a sacrifice fly to cut the Rox lead in half, 4-2.

Colonials starting RHP Patrick Moran settled down after the first inning and completed seven full innings. He surrendered the four runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Brockton answered right back in the top of the eighth with the two-out, two-run double from Grossman as the Rox regained a two-run lead. Brachold had been walked intentionally before Grossman to set up the first and third situation that he cashed in on.
Pittsfield cut the lead in half in the bottom of the eighth when Cabreja led off with a triple and scored on Leon's single.
RHP Hunter Davis came on for the ninth inning and allowed a one-out single to Nandin. Nandin stole second and went to third on a throwing error before Davis forced a fly out and walked Molina. With runners on the corners and two outs, Taylor hit a broken-bat roller up the first base side that Davis played and flipped to first base to end the game.
RHP Colin Lynch (5-4) earned the victory, going 1.1 innings out of the pen, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout. Davis picked up his 11th save in 11 chances. RHP Pat Bresnehan (1-1) took the loss for the Colonials after giving up the two runs in the eighth inning.
