Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (April 21, 2006) - The Kansas City Royals have added RHP Chris Nicoll to the Burlington Bees active roster and he will make his debut tonight as the starting pitcher against the Peoria Chiefs at O'Brien Field. Nicoll moves into the open spot on the active roster left when LHP Eliezer Garcia was placed on the Disabled List retroactive to April 17th. Garcia has an extreme sore throat and flu and has lost five pounds in the last week.
The Royals drafted Nicoll in the 3rd round of last year's draft out of UC-Irvine where he was 6-4 with a 2.58 ERA in 17 games to earn 2nd-Team All Big-West Honors and the school's Pitcher of the Year Award. In 112 innings, he allowed 89 hits and 24 walks while striking out 113. He finished his career second on UC-Irvine's career list for ERA and fourth in strikeouts. He made his pro debut with Idaho Falls in the short-season Pioneer League last year and was 0-3 with a 3.62 ERA in seven starts. Baseball America ranks Nicoll 19th on the Royals' Top 30 Prospect List and first among Royals' minor leaguers in control.
Nicoll will be on the mound tonight as the Bees start an eight-game road trip with the first of four against the Peoria Chiefs at O'Brien Field. The game starts at 6:30 and will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:10. The Bees next home game is Saturday, April 29th at 6:00 against the Dayton Dragons. For ticket information, fans can contact the Bees front office at (319) 754-5705.
