Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Beloit Snappers scored four runs in the sixth inning and cruised to a 6-1 win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 2,899 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night.
With the bases empty and two men out, Beloit's Caleb Moore recorded an infield hit off of Lansing starter A.J. Wideman. Henry Sanchez then followed that up with a double to the left field corner to put runners at second and third base. Andrew Thompson drew a walk to load the bases.
Wideman was pulled after the walk in favor of Edward Rodriguez, who gave up a bases clearing double to Eli Tintor that made the score 3-0. Tintor would later come home on a single by Edward Ovalle to push the lead to 4-0.
The Snappers added two more runs to their lead when Paul Kelly and Sanchez each had RBI singles in the seventh.
Lansing's lone run came in the eighth inning when David Hicks roped a single to center field to plate Cory Patton. Hicks finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Oswaldo Sosa (1-2) picked up the win for Beloit after hurling 5 2/3 innings of three hit baseball.
A.J. Wideman (0-1) took a hard luck loss for the Lugnuts by tossing 5 2/3 innings and giving up three runs while fanning six.
Beloit (9-6) and Lansing (10-5) will meet again on Saturday in the second game of the four game set at Oldsmobile Park. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
