
Nick Riopel Named CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week

KALAMAZOO, MI- Kalamazoo Wings netminder Nick Riopel has been named as the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of February 20-26, the ECHL announced Tuesday.
Riopel, 28, went 2-0-0 last week with a goals against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .948%, while helping the Wings into fourth place in the Central Division. He helped propel the Wings past the Quad City Mallards in back-to-back nights, posting 29 saves in a 4-2 victory on Friday and 26 more during a 4-1 Saturday triumph.
A native of Beloeil, Quebec, Riopel has appeared in 22 games with the Wings this season and has posted an 11-9-0-1 record, while checking in with a 2.80 goals against average and a save percentage of .902%.
Under contract with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, Riopel has seen action in 119 career ECHL games with Kalamazoo, Rapid City, and Greenville. Over that time, Riopel has earned a career mark of 62-47-6, a goals against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of .909%. The seventh-year pro has appeared in 21 career AHL games and in 68 career games in Europe.
Riopel was a fifth round (pick 142) draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Before turning pro in 2010 with Adirondack of the AHL, Riopel appeared in 173 games with Moncton of the QMJHL, and was the league's MVP during the 2008-09 season while setting a QMJHL record with a 2.01 goals against average. In the following season, Riopel helped lead the Wildcats to a QMJHL title and a berth in the Memorial Cup.
