ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
Tonight the Royals face the Elmira Jackals at First Arena in Elmira, New York, in what is the continuation of a "suspended game" begun between the two teams on February 17, 2017. That game was halted due to ice conditions at First Arena 13:53 after the opening face-off. Reading leads in the contest at 2 - 0 on the strength of goals by Mike Pereira (1:20 into the first period) and Ryan Penny (10:11 into the first). Goaltender Martin Ouellette started the game for the Royals and made all eight saves he was called upon to make in 13:53 of game time; Jason Kasdorf was in net for Elmira and had made eleven saves on thirteen shots at the time the game was halted. The two teams are permitted to make changes to their original lineups for this game, which will pick up and continue with a face-off at center ice with 6:07 remaining in the first period.
This is the ninth matchup between the Royals and Jackals, who will complete the ten game regular season series here in Elmira on Saturday, March 11. Reading has compiled a record of 7-1-0-0 in the eight completed games between the two teams, most recently beating the Jackals at Santander Arena in Reading 2-0 on February 19. The Jackals joined the ECHL in the 2007-08 season. Over the course of the ten years that Elmira has been part of the ECHL, Reading has compiled a record of 76-45-12 in 133 total regular season games played between the two organizations. The two teams have also faced off twice in the post-season with Reading claiming the 2008 North Division Semi-Finals (4-2), and the Jackals knocking off the Royals in the best-of-five 2012 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals (3-2). Since the 2013-14 season, the Royals have compiled an overall record of 37-10-3-1 in the last fifty-one games played against the Jackals. Since March 10, 2013, Reading has gone 19-3-2-0 in the last twenty-four games played at First Arena in Elmira.
