Niagara IceDogs Week Recap
November 8, 2023 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
Coming out of their busiest week of the season so far, your Niagara IceDogs had a few days to get ready for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they made the trek to Sudbury to face the Wolves, then Saturday they were back home against the North Bay Battalion.
The Dogs took the trip up to Sudbury where they battled hard, but unfortunately fell 3-1 to the Wolves. It was a slow first period from both teams as the only numbers put up were penalties; the score remained deadlocked at zero after the first. Mathieu Paris started the second period off strong, scoring the first goal of the game and his fifth of the season 2:40 into the period. The IceDogs did not give up even as Sudbury managed to pot a couple goals to take the lead, before finally tallying an empty net goal to seal it. Marcus Vandenberg fought hard, saving 42 of 44 shots in the loss.
The Boys in Red kept their spirits high as they travelled back to their home barn to face North Bay for the first time this season. They started off great with the first goal of the game from Zak Lavoie just 9:25 into the game! North Bay answered back with a goal three minutes later to tie the game going into the second period. Mike Levin came out hard to get the first goal of the second, showing North Bay that the Dogs meant business. With three minutes left in the second, North Bay scored to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes of play. North Bay came out hot and scored two goals not even five minutes into the third, but once again, the team showed no quit. Kevin He picked off the puck and brought the boys within one with just ten minutes to go. They weren't able to get the equalizer, as North Bay hung on for the 4-3 win. Owen Flores was rock solid once again, stopping 43 shots in 60 minutes.
The Dogs have a four-day break to rest up and prepare for their next "3 in 3" (three games in three nights) this upcoming weekend. The Sudbury Wolves are coming down on Thursday November 9th, where the IceDogs will fight for payback after the 3-1 loss last Friday. They then travel to Brantford for the first meeting with the Bulldogs this year, and finally, they are back at home Saturday to face the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on our Remembrance Day game. The Dogs have been playing some fast and strategic hockey that is very exciting to see, and they look to continue that this weekend! As mentioned, Saturday's game is our Remembrance Day game, and the boys have some amazing new jerseys they will be sporting for the game! Make sure to get your tickets for both Thursday and Saturday; you wont want to miss out!
There will be a special ticket offer for the game on Saturday, for all veterans and serving military: $15 per ticket in the silver or gold zones. The special ticket offer can be redeemed in person, at the Meridian Center box office, or over the phone at (905) 684-0482.
