Kitchener Heads to Owen Sound for Fourth Matchup of the Season

Owen Sound, ON- The first-place Kitchener Rangers are set to play the Owen Sound Attack for the fourth time this season on Wednesday. Puck drop is slated for 7 pm at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Over the Years:

The Rangers and Attack have faced off 43 times since the 2017-18 season. Kitchener owns the overall advantage with a 24-15-4-1 record. When playing in Owen Sound the Rangers hold an 11-7-2-1 advantage.

This Season:

So far this season the two clubs have played each other three times. The Rangers have won one out of three of those games. The last meeting between the two clubs was on October 28th in Owen Sound where the Blueshirts fell short 5-3 in a hard-fought battle.

Special Teams:

Owen Sound owns the league's fourth-best power play converting at 28%. The Rangers trail close behind in the powerplay rankings as they are currently placed sixth at 24.6%. The Rangers own the league's fifth-best penalty kill converting at 82.5% and Owen Sound ranked 16th at 77.8%.

Last time out:

The Rangers have now won the past two games heading into Wednesday's contest against the Attack after beating the North Bay Battalion 5-2 on Friday and their division rivals the London Knights 4-2 on Sunday.

Rangers to Watch:

Wednesday night marks Carson Rehkopf's (Seattle Kraken) 150th OHL career game. Over the past three seasons, Rehkopf has registered 65 goals and 57 assists for a total of 122 points. Rehkopf is the top point-getter in the league with a 17-13-30 stat line. Rehkopf recorded two assists on Sunday against the Knights and received the second start of the game. He has recorded three goals and four assists for seven points in the past three games.

Matthew Sop follows second behind Rehkopf with the second most points in the league with 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points. Sop recorded a three-point night (2G, 1A) on Sunday in London. Sop has registered five points (3G, 2A) against Owen Sound this year.

Hunter Brzustewicz (Vancouver Canucks) continues to lead the league's defencemen in points with an 11-point cushion. Brzustewicz has 27 points (5G, 22A).

Between the pipes, Jackson Parsons has recorded a .907 save percentage and a 2.71 goals average in 11 games. Parsons stood tall against London on Sunday saving 26 of 28 shots.

Injury Status:

Forward Mitchell Martin suffered an injury against London on Sunday and will not play against Owen Sound. He is currently listed as week-to-week.

Roman Schmidt Returns to The Rangers:

The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned defenseman Roman Schmidt from the Syracuse Crunch to the Rangers on November 7th. Schmidt, 20, played in one game with the Crunch this season making his professional debut against the Rochester Americans on November 1st recording, one assist. He appeared in 64 games with the Rangers last season, tallying four goals and 24 assists. Schmidt will be available to the Rangers against the Attack tonight.

SCOUTING THE ATTACK (7-7-1-0)

Ranked 8th in the Western Conference, 13th in the OHL

Last time out:

Owen Sound last played on Saturday against London. The Attack lost to the Knights 3-2 in regulation. The Knights took the game with only 18 seconds remaining in the game.

Attack to Watch:

Overager Deni Goure is leading the Attack with 21 points (10G, 11A). In his last three games, Goure has tallied seven points (3G, 4A) with five of those points registered against Sarnia on November 3rd.

Defenceman Sam Sedley is second in points for the Attack and tied for second in points amongst defencemen in the league with a 3-15-18 stat line.

In net, Carter George has been a huge asset for Owen Sound. The first-year goaltender has played 12 games recording a .915 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average. Against London on Saturday George stopped 31 of 34 shots.
