January 24, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The stage has already been set for the "Do YOU Believe in Miracles" event on February 1st presented by KCIce and the Missouri Mavericks, but spectacular support for the underlying Uncommon Community charity continues to overwhelm those involved.

Ken Morrow, KCIce President and 1980 'Miracle on Ice' Olympic Gold Medalist, initially came up with this special event to bring together three of his 1980 Team USA teammates (Mike Eruzione, Dave Christian, and Buzz Schneider) to give fans of hockey young and old the chance to make their own miracle memory at a once in a lifetime event, all while benefitting the Uncommon Community charity and supporting the growth of hockey in the Kansas City area.

"I am really looking forward to having Mike, Buzz, and Dave join me for a fantastic celebration of hockey and the Olympics here in KC on Feb 1st," says Ken Morrow. "We are going to have a great time skating outdoors at Burlington Creek, attending the Mavericks game and meeting the fans. All of the players jumped on board when they heard about KCIce and our cause of supporting grassroots ice sports and giving back to the community."

The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) has stepped up in a big way, with the players' NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund donating 25 sets of brand new hockey equipment to the Uncommon Community. For the last 14 years, more than 60,000 deserving children have benefitted from hockey equipment donated by NHLPA Goals & Dreams. NHL players seek to continue helping children play the great sport of hockey, and the Uncommon Community aligns its own goals with just that.

"The Miracle on Ice is revered as one of the most memorable moments in hockey. NHL Players are pleased to help further the lasting impact on grassroots hockey of the 1980 Team USA, by donating 25 sets of equipment through the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund, so more children in the Kansas City area can enjoy playing this great game," says Mathieu Schneider, NHLPA Special Assistant to the Executive Director and former NHL player.

The National Hockey League (NHL) is proud to sponsor a special autograph session with the four 'Miracle on Ice' Olympians before the Missouri Mavericks game at the Independence Events Center on February 1st. Ken Morrow, Buzz Schneider, Dave Christian, and Team Captain Mike Eruzione will be signing autographs from 6:00-6:45pm on the main concourse thanks to the generosity of the NHL.

A limited number of event suite tickets are still available for purchase through kcice.net. Fans who purchase Gold, Silver, and Bronze level suite tickets are guaranteed to spend a fantastic evening with the four 1980 Olympians, sharing stories and enjoying a great Mavericks game. The special suite tickets are available exclusively through KCIce and include a special autographed gift and delicious food.

A silent auction of unique items including an autographed poster/photo by all 3 gold medal USA hockey teams, the very last authentic Lake Placid arena seat available signed by all 20 'Miracle' players, a Mike Eruzione authentic Team USA signed jersey, and a 'Miracle' movie poster signed by all 20 players. All proceeds from the sale of suite tickets and the silent auction benefit KCIce and the Uncommon Community.
