January 24, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Three Things You Need to Know

1.) Thunder Take Streak on the Road- The Wichita Thunder (16-17-4) take their five-game win streak on the road this weekend with a pair of games in South Dakota against the Rapid City Rush (25-10-0). The Rush are tied for the conference lead (Allen) with 50 points and the Thunder currently have a three point advantage for the eighth and final spot for the post-season. David Brown has been outstanding in net for Wichita allowing just six total goals during his personal four-game win streak. The Rush and Thunder have battled three times this season, all in Wichita, with Rapid City winning all three games. The Thunder are 14-7 since Nov. 23 and have been on a steady climb since their 2-10-4 start to the season. RG Flath has been fueling the offense for the Thunder with goals in four of his last five games.

2.) Americans and Chill Battle- The Allen Americans (23-10-4) have caught the Rapid City Rush at the top of the standings thanks to their 11-game point streak that has seen them go 9-0-2. The Americans will host the St. Charles Chill (9-25-5) this weekend marking the first visit to Texas for the expansion Chill. The two teams have met twice in Missouri with the Americans taking both battles with Jamie Schaafsma scoring three times against the Chill. St. Charles has won just twice in their last 15 games (2-12-1). The Chill are 1-2-0 on their current five-game road trip that wraps up in Allen. The Americans won their last game in dramatic fashion with Spencer Asuchuk scoring with nine seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game against the Arizona Sundogs on Monday afternoon and then Greger Hanson scored the winner in overtime.

3.) Thursday Wrap-Up- The Quad City Mallards (17-9-7) and Brampton Beast (20-17-3) began a three-game series on Thursday night and the Flock put an end to their four-game slide with a 4-1 win over the Beast. Just less than a month ago, the Mallards swept a three-game series in Brampton winning all three games by one goal. In the season series, the Flock are 6-1-2 against Brampton with seven of the nine games being decided by a goal. Gergo Nagy had two goals and an assist in last night's game and Ty Rimmer made 34 saves earning the win for the Flock.

By the Numbers

60: The number of points that Tulsa's Todd Robinson and Denver's Garett Bembridge have on the season tying for the lead in the CHL. Robinson is coming off a two assist game on Tuesday and on the season has 12 goals and 48 assists. Bembridge leads the league in goals with 30 to go along with 30 helpers.

One-Timers

-The Denver Cutthroats (19-11-7) and Arizona Sundogs (15-18-3) battle this weekend in Vail, Colorado as a part of the Cutthroats "Colorado Tour". The teams have split six games this season and the Sundogs come in on a high with a 5-0-2 record in their last seven games. Brandon Coccimiglio has three goals and four assists in his last four games for the Sundogs.

-The Allen Americans have signed forward Ryley Grantham who has been in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons (AHL) since the beginning of the year. Grantham played 42 games with the Americans last season scoring five goals with six assists and 135 penalty minutes. Grantham had two assists and 19 PIM's in six games with the Falcons.

-The Tulsa Oilers (19-19-3) will end their six-game home stand on Friday night when they host the Missouri Mavericks (22-11-2). Tulsa has lost three straight games on their home stand (0-2-1) and on the season are winless in five games against the Mavs. Missouri will in turn host the Oilers on Saturday night at the Independence Events Center.

-Quad City forward Gabriel Levesque is the most efficient scorer in the CHL connecting on 11 of his 35 shots this season. His 31% shooting percentage leads the league for a player with five or more goals.

-Should the Rapid City Rush/Wichita Thunder match-ups this weekend go to a shootout, tough to pick a favorite. The Rush are 4-0 in shootouts this season and the Thunder are 4-1.

-The Arizona Sundogs (15-18-3) have had a tough time playing from the lead this season as they have been tied or trailing in 30 of their 36 after two periods. When leading after two periods, the Sundogs are 5-0-1
