Mavericks Take 6th Victory over Oilers

Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks take their sixth victory of the season over the Tulsa Oilers with a 3-1 win thanks to a fantastic effort by goaltender Shane Owen, and the versatility of several Mavericks skaters filling the blue-line gap.
Holding a bench of only fifteen skaters, the Mavericks had cause to be nervous heading into their Friday night matchup against the Tulsa Oilers on the road, but confident in the way they have stepped up as a team in the past when plagued by league suspensions and the occasional injury this season, there was no need for concern.
The Mavericks took an early jump on the Tulsa Oilers when John-Scott Dickson tallied the first goal of the game only 1:43 into period, assisted by Obi Aduba. Missouri wasn't able to capitalize on their first power play opportunity, but Shane Owen kept his team alive with a spectacular performance in goal.
Second period under way, Obi Aduba continued to have plenty of good touches on the puck, which paid off in a goal of his own at the top of the second, assisted by Colten Hayes and Evan Vossen, to double the Mavericks lead 2-0 over the Oilers. It wasn't long before Tulsa found a groove and were able to put a shot past Shane Owen to cut the Mavs' lead in half. It would be their only goal of the night as Owen continued to own the crease and make save after incredible save, earning himself the first star of the game.
Midway through the second period, Trevor Kell scored to expand his team's lead to 3-1, regaining control over the Tulsa ice with the scoreboard in Missouri's favor. Colt King delivered a perfectly placed pass to Kell, setting up the important lamp-lighter. Andrew Courtney took a secondary assist on Kell's goal.
The Mavericks and Oilers wrestled through the final 20 minutes of regulation with no scoring and no penalties, ultimately handing the Mavs their sixth win of the season over the Tulsa team.
This is the third two-point game the Mavericks have taken over the Oilers in a row. Tulsa will travel to the Independence Events Center tomorrow night, Saturday, January 25th to face Missouri at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office and Ticketmaster.com.
