
News Storm Sign Prospect Nolan Makkonen

GUELPH, ON - The Guelph Storm Hockey Club is pleased to announce the signing of defenceman Nolan Makkonen, the team's ninth-round selection, 174th overall, in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. The six-foot-one, 195-pound has spent last seasons splitting time with the Soo Thunderbirds Midget AAA team and the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 34 games with the Thunderbirds Midget AAA team, Nolan had five goals and 14 assists for 19 points, along with an assist in 10 games with the Thunderbirds. "We are very pleased to announce that Nolan Makkonen has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Storm,"Â General Manager Mike Kelly said. "Nolan had a very strong training camp and followed that up with excellent play with the Soo Eagles of the NOJHL." "He is very strong, possesses a heavy shot, and makes very good decisions on the defensive side of the puck,"Â Kelly continued. "We would like to thank the Soo Eagles, as well as the Soo Thunderbirds, for their contribution to Nolan's development. We also wish to welcome Nolan and his family to the Storm organization." The Sault Ste. Marie native has appeared in 31 games for the Soo Eagles of the NOJHL this season recording a goal and two assists for three points. Nolan will join the team today.
