Cleveland Charge News Release
CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge (18-25), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Wisconsin Herd (10-33), 119-116 in a Saturday matinee thriller at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. Charge reserve guard Malik Newman scored a career-high 32 points, notching his second consecutive 30 point game off of the bench. The shorthanded Charge were without Cavaliers Two-Way forward Deng Adel (illness) and forward Sir'Dominic Pointer (thumb sprain).
Trailing the season series 0-3, the Charge snapped their skid versus the divisional foes from Oshkosh behind the scoring output of trio Jaron Blossomgame, JaCorey Williams and Newman. Blossomgame finished with 28 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field in a season-high 43 minutes. Blossomgame stuffed the stat sheet by adding eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks. JaCorey Williams was inserted in the starting lineup in place of center Chance Comanche and responded with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in a season-high 39 minutes. Newman continued his strong play as of late, leading the Charge with 32 points. Newman is the first Charge player in franchise history to record back-to-back 30 point games off of the bench. 18 of Newman's 32 points came in the second half to help the Charge rally to the win.
On assignment from the Milwaukee Bucks, Herd center Christian Wood impressed with a game-high 39 points and 17 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Former Charge forward and Milwaukee Bucks' Two-Way forward Bonzie Colson added 17 points and seven boards for the Herd. The Herd went ice cold in the second half from the three-point line, misfiring on all 12 attempts in the last 24 minutes of play. The Herd's 101 field goal attempts marked an opponent season-high versus the Charge.
The Charge are back home tomorrow afternoon, March 10th at 3:00 p.m. against the Lakeland Magic (TV: Facebook Live; RADIO: 99.7 FM).
