Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Newcomer Brayden Irwin scored a goal and added two assists in his Everblades debut to help pace lead the Florida Everblades to a 7-2 victory over the Chicago Express Wednesday night. Florida outshot the Express 42-15 in the contest.

The first period began with some great excitement when the Express's Chad Painchuad opened up the scoring with a second chance effort on the rebound after Aaron Marvin's shot was stopped by Blades goalie Pat Nagle. Nearly a minute later, the Everblades responded with a goal of their own when Kory Falite put back a rebound past Chicago goaltender Paul Dainton off David Rutherford's shot to tie the game at three.

The action would slow down as the first period turned into a defensive showdown until three minutes remaining when Kyle Lawson scored his first goal of the season off of a rebounded shot deflected off of Paul Dainton.

The Everblades' offense continued to roll in the second period and scored within the first four minutes of the period. Scott Pitt took a pass from Scott Fletcher at center ice and took it the rest of the way to beat Dainton on a wrist shot for the goal.

The Blades continued to control the puck throughout the period until the 16 minute mark when the Express's Chaz Johnson was able to slam one past Pat Nagle from the left side circle bringing Chicago within one.

The Blades went back into the locker room on a good note as David Fischer fired a longshot from behind the right side circle that would be redirected into the net by Trevor Breuss giving Florida a two goal lead after two periods.

Chicago's defense continued to struggle against Florida's offense in the third. The blades added three more goals from Tyler Shelast, David Rutherford and Brayden Irwin. Both Irwin and Shelast registered their first goal as an Everblade. Irwin was loaned to the Blades on Wednesday from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
