Blades Receive Forward Irwin from Toronto; Beca Recalled

ESTERO, FL -- Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Wednesday that forward Brayden Irwin has been loaned to the Everblades from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Additionally, forward Matt Beca has been recalled by the Charlotte checkers of the AHL.
Irwin has gone scoreless in two games played this season split between the Marlies (AHL) and the Reading Royals (ECHL). The 6-5, 205-pound forward posted 15 points (7g, 8a) in 45 appearances with the Marlies last season.
Irwin played two games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs logging two penalty minutes during the 2009-2010 season. The Toronto, Ontario native accumulated 82 points (38g, 44a) during his four-year collegiate career at the University of Vermont.
Beca heads back to Charlotte just one day after being returned to the Blades from the Checkers on Tuesday. In his first stint with Charlotte, Beca went scoreless in one game played. Beca posted 20 points (9g, 11a) during the month of the December, while tied for the team lead in scoring with 28 points (10g, 18a). Last season the 5-10, 181-pound forward registered a 50 points season scoring 22 goals and 28 assists.
In 2010, the Mississauga, Ontario native appeared in five games with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League scoring one goal, following his four year at Clarkson University.
The Everblades play host to the Chicago Express tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena. The game will feature $2 drafts, $2 wines, $2 hot dogs all night long! The two teams will meet again on Friday 13 and Saturday the 14th at Germain Arena.
