Chicago Express News Release
Estero, FL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, fell by the final score of 7-2 to the Florida Everblades at the Germain Arena on Wednesday night.
The Express got the start they wanted, as C Aaron Marvin picked up a bouncing puck in the left corner and connected on a pass to LW Chad Painchaud. Painchaud one-timed a shot from the slot, putting it between the legs of G Pat Nagle to give Chicago a 1-0 lead 3:40 into the game. Florida answered right back, however, as LW Kory Falite banged home a rebound, evening the score at 1-1 just 1:13 later. The Everblades snapped the scoreless tie with 3:11 remaining in the period, as D Kyle Lawson found a loose puck on the side of the net and tapped it home to put Florida on top 2-1 at end of the opening frame.
The Everblades added to their lead 3:54 into the second stanza, as F Scott Pitt got a breakaway pass and flipped a wrister over the glove of G Paul Dainton, making the score 3-1. The Express cut the lead in half when RW Chaz Johnson slipped a shot between Nagle and the left post, bringing the Express back to within one. The Everblades restored their two goal lead, however, as RW Trevor Bruess deflected a shot from D David Fisher into the top right corner of the net, and the Everblades led 4-2 after two periods of play.
Chicago was never able to get the offense going in the final frame, as the Everblades added goals from F Tyler Shelast, F Brayden Irwin and C David Rutherford, collecting the 7-2 win. Florida outshot Chicago 42-15 in the game.
