Red Bull New York News Release

NEW YORK LOOKS TO EXTINGUISH FIRE AT RED BULL ARENA SATURDAY: The New York Red Bulls will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Eastern Conference foe, the Chicago Fire, at Red Bull Arena at 7:30 PM ET (TV: MSG - Pre-Game Starts at 7:00 PM).

Coming off winning the Emirates Cup in London, New York returned to MLS action with a 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Despite the defeat, the Red Bulls maintained their third place tie with Sporting Kansas City and are just three points adrift of the second place Philadelphia Union and four behind the first place Columbus Crew.

The Fire is currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table with 19 points off a 2-7-13 record. On Sunday night, they fell, 4-2, to Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Empire Field with Eric Hassli's brace leading the home side. Chicago is currently paced by forward Dominic Oduro and midfielder Marco Pappa, who have scored six and five goals, respectively. The Fire also recently added Mexican International Pavel Pardo. Pardo scored on his MLS debut on Wednesday, Aug. 3 in a 1-1 tie with the Union at TOYOTA Park.

All-time in regular season play against Chicago, New York holds a record of 11-20-8 and 8-9-2 at home. The Red Bulls drew with the Fire, 1-1, at TOYOTA Park on June 26 with Joel Lindpere finding the back of the net for New York, while Pappa recorded a goal after the break. Chicago also defeated New York, 4-0, on July 12 at TOYOTA Park in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Last season, the Red Bulls earned a historic victory over the Fire, as they defeated Chicago, 1-0, in the first ever MLS match at Red Bull Arena on May 27, 2010. Lindpere's 40th minute strike held up as the game winner. The teams met up again on Aug. 8, 2010 at Toyota Park, a match that ended in a 0-0 draw. The match marked Designated Player Rafa Marquez's Red Bulls' debut.

NEW YORK-CHICAGO CONNECTIONS: Chicago goalkeeper Jon Conway spent four seasons with New York from 2006-09. He ranks third on the club's all-time wins list for goalkeepers, earning 23 during his New York career, and is second on the all-time shutouts list with 17 career clean sheets. The Rutgers University product was acquired prior to the 2006 season from San Jose for a fourth round draft choice. The club dealt him to Chivas USA following the 2009 season.

Fire goalkeeper Alec Dufty had brief stint with the Red Bulls in 2009, appearing in one match, logging 82 minutes in a 0-0 draw at the Houston Dynamo on April 11, 2009. Also a member of the Red Bulls for a short time in 2009 was Fire forward Dominic Oduro, who appeared in three matches, starting one. Oduro was acquired prior to the 2009 season from FC Dallas, with the clubs swapping draft choices while Dave van den Bergh was sent to FC Dallas. Later in the 2009 season, the Red Bulls shipped Oduro to Houston for a 2010 first round draft choice, and a 2011 second round draft choice in the MLS SuperDraft. The Red Bulls used the first round selection in that trade to take Austin da Luz with the 14th overall pick in 2010. With the 2011 second round choice from the Dynamo, the Red Bulls selected John Rooney.

RED BULLS OVERCOME BY REAL SALT LAKE, 3-0: The New York Red Bulls fell to Real Salt Lake, 3-0, Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. The loss dropped New York to 6-6-12 this season, as it stayed on 30 points and maintained a third place tie with Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference.

New York tested goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the seventh minute. Thierry Henry gathered possession and drove towards goal before sliding it to Juan Agudelo, whose chip was parried away by Rimando. Six minutes later, Real Salt Lake's Andy Williams tried to catch Frank Rost off of his line after a Rost corner kick clearance, but the German goalkeeper dove to his right to poke the attempt out of bounds.

Despite Rost's efforts, the hosts took the lead on the ensuing play. Defender Nat Borchers was the first to Kyle Beckerman's in-swinging corner kick delivery and he headed it in from the six yard box.

Real Salt Lake doubled its lead a minute from halftime. Beckerman was again involved, knocking it to an on-rushing Luis Gil. Gil had enough space to hit a low shot from outside of the box that beat Rost and settled inside the far netting.

The Red Bulls made two changes at halftime with Stephen Keel replacing Dax McCarty and Bouna Coundoul coming in for Rost, who left the game with a right quadriceps injury. New York had chances, with defender Roy Miller shooting just by the right post and Agudelo getting free on a corner kick and flashing his header off target.

Real Salt Lake sealed the win in the 77th minute when Miller was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty box. Alvaro Saborio stepped up and put his spot kick past Coundoul to finish the scoring.

Midfielder Dane Richards missed Saturday's match, serving a one-game red card suspension, while Teemu Tainio sat out due to flu-like symptoms after traveling with the team to Salt Lake City.

ALBRIGHT MAKES FIRST MLS START: Red Bulls defender Chris Albright made his first MLS start of the season in Saturday's 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake. Albright, who has dealt with knee and hernia injuries, played the full 90 minutes. It was Albright's first start since a 2-1 loss on Oct. 16, 2010 against Philadelphia. Last season, Albright started in 18 games, notching two assists.

FOUR RED BULLS ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY: New York Red Bulls defenders Tim Ream (United States) and Rafa Marquez (Mexico), forward Juan Agudelo (United States), and goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul (Senegal) have been called up for national team duty in order to participate in international friendlies on August 10. All four players are expected to return and be available for selection in time for when the Red Bulls take on the Chicago Fire on August 13 at Red Bull Arena at 7:30 PM ET.

Agudelo and Ream will face off against Marquez, when the United States takes on Mexico in a Gold Cup final rematch at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. Kickoff is set for 9:00 PM ET, with ESPN2, ESPN3 and Univision broadcasting the game live. The last time the two teams met, Mexico ousted the U.S., 4-2, to claim the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup title in front of 93,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on June 25.

Fresh off MLS All-Star stints, Agudelo and Ream return to the U.S. National Team having begun to accumulate international experience. Ream has earned six appearances for the national team, including five starts in defense. The St. Louis, MO native started at center back for the U.S. during their first two Gold Cup matches against Canada and Panama. He has started in 18 games for the Red Bulls this season.

The 18-year-old Agudelo has made 10 appearances for the U.S., during which he has two goals and two assists. During the Gold Cup, Agudelo participated in five out of the U.S.'s six Gold Cup matchups, with the one exception coming against Guadeloupe on June 14. Agudelo has recorded five goals and one assist in 18 appearances for New York this season.

Coundoul and the Senegalese National Team will be taking on Morocco in Dakar, Senegal. His last appearance for Senegal came on June 4, when he held Cameroon scoreless in a 0-0 draw and earned recognition as Man of the Match in his sixth cap. Coundoul has played in 10 games in 2011 for New York, tallying three shutouts.

Marquez, who was also named to the MLS All-Star roster but did not participate, has been a mainstay on the Mexican National Team. Marquez has made 107 appearances and scored 12 goals for the squad. He is only the eighth Mexican to ever exceed 100 national caps. Marquez started every game for Mexico during the Gold Cup, but was forced to leave the final versus the U.S. due to injury. He has made 11 starts for New York this season.

RED BULLS BECOME FIRST AMERICAN SIDE TO WIN EMIRATES CUP: The Red Bulls made history the weekend of July 30-31, becoming the first American club to participate in and win the Emirates Cup, the annual four-team tournament hosted by England's Arsenal FC. The Red Bulls topped the Emirates Cup table with four points after defeating French club Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on July 30 and earning a 1-1 draw with host Arsenal on July 31. In the five-year history of the tournament, Arsenal has won the trophy three times (2007, 2009-10), while the Red Bulls join German club Hamburger SV, who won the competition in 2008, as the only other clubs other than the host to raise the cup.
