
New York Red Bulls Blanked by Philadelphia Union

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union beat New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena. With the win, the Union remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with 60 points, setting a new record for most wins in a single season in club history with 17. The first half saw both sides scoreless with goalkeeper Andre Blake posting two saves and the defense contributing five clearances to keep the match level through the first 45 minutes. The Union got on the board quickly in the second half, when in the 48th minute homegrown midfielder Jack McGlynn dribbled to the top of the box and sent a short pass to forward Mikael Uhre who slotted a right footed shot past the keeper and into the bottom left of the goal. Philadelphia would double their lead in the 74th minute, as forward Julian Carranza won the ball in the midfield, sending in a through ball to midfielder Daniel Gazdag in the box who would slide in a left footed shot into the back of the net. Goalkeeper Andre Blake posted his 13th clean sheet of the season, a career and club record. He is now tied for first in clean sheets this season.
The Union return home to face Orlando City SC at Subaru Park on Saturday, September 10th (7:30 p.m. ET / PHL17).
