New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - Two New York Red Bulls, defender Aaron Long and midfielder Tyler Adams, have been named to the U.S. Men's National Team roster for a pair of November friendlies against England and Italy. Long, who was signed from the Red Bulls USL team and Adams, a Homegrown Player, are enjoying standout 2018 seasons that include several USMNT call ups as well as MLS All-Star nods.
The players will report to London following the Red Bulls home match against Columbus Crew SC on Sunday, November 11. New York hosts Crew SC at 7:30 p.m. ET in the Second Leg of an Eastern Conference Semifinal series in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, with coverage on FS1, Fox Deportes and Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish.
The USMNT will train in London ahead of a match against England at Wembley on Thursday, November 15 (ESPN2, 3 p.m. ET). The team will then travel to Belgium for a match against Italy on Tuesday, November 20 at Luminus Arena (FS1, 2:45 p.m. ET).
Adams earned his first USMNT cap last November in a friendly against Portugal, and has been called into every USMNT camp since. He was held out of October camp due to injury. Adams scored his first senior international goal in his last cap, a 2-0 win over Mexico on September 11.
Adams began with the Red Bulls Regional Development School as an Under-12 player. In 2015, he became the first player to progress from RDS through the academy system to a professional contract, signing with NYRB II at 16.
Long, 26, earned his first senior cap in October's 1-1 draw against Peru, playing a full 90 minutes as part of a backline that allowed just three shots on goal. He received his first national team call - at any level - for the September camp and friendlies against Brazil and Mexico.
The Oak Hills, California native was converted from a midfielder to a center back after arriving in Red Bulls camp in 2015. Long was honored as the 2016 USL Defender of the Year before transitioning seamlessly to MLS, where he has established himself as a key piece of a defense that recorded 14 shutouts and allowed a league-low 33 goals in 34 games in MLS this season.
Adams and Long were key contributors to the Red Bulls record breaking season, which saw the club claim its third Supporters' Shield in six years by setting new MLS records for points (71), wins (22), home points (43), and home wins (14) in a season.
