OHL Owen Sound Attack

New Year, New Slate of Games for Week 16

January 1, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

2019 is here! Happy New Year's from everyone in the Attack organization. The schedule around the holiday is always full of fixtures, and this year is no different. Owen Sound will begin the new year with 3 games in 4 nights, with two divisional battles and one Eastern Conference matchup with familiar faces.

The first game of the year is a home date against the Guelph Storm on Wednesday, January 2nd. The Attack and Storm have split the season series so far, with each team picking up two victories. Guelph GM/Head Coach George Burnett has been busy making changes to the roster, acquiring F Pavel Gogolev in exchange for D Ryan Merkley.

The Guelph Storm rely on a trio of 19 year olds for the bulk of their offense, with Nate Schnarr, Liam Hawel and Isaac Ratcliffe combining for 59 goals this season. New acquisition Pavel Gogolev has gotten off to a hot start as well, with 3 goals and 8 points in his first 4 games with his new club.

Friday night will see the Bears head to the Aud in Kitchener for the first time this season as they aim to avenge last week's loss. Kitchener got the better of Owen Sound last Saturday at the Bayshore, skating to a 6-2 win in their only matchup of the season so far.

Jonathan Yantsis continued his hot season with 2 goals and an assist to claim first star honours, and Owen Sound native Lucas Pfeil was strong between the pipes to hold off any Attack comeback.

Owen Sound holds an advantage over the Rangers in the standings, but all divisional matchups are fierce battles and the team will have to play a complete 60 minutes to come away with two points.

The final game of the week will see many familiar faces return to the Harry Lumley Bayshore as the North Bay Battalion make their annual trip to Owen Sound. The Battalion sit in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference and this is the first game between the two this season. Former North Bay F Adam McMaster will be excited for a chance to play against his former teammates for the first time shortly after the trade.

For North Bay, overager Justin Brazeau has spent the season at the top of the OHL leaderboards, and former Attack F Matthew Struthers is second on the team in scoring. Mitchell Russell and Nick King round out the Attack alumni playing for the Battalion.

Limited tickets remain for Wednesday and Saturday's game, and fans are encouraged to get theirs as soon as possible from the MacVicar and McComb Remax Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com or by calling 519.371.7452.

All three matchups can be seen on Rogers Local Channel 53 or on OHL live, and Fred Wallace will have the Friday night broadcast on 560 CFOS Bear Radio.

The Weekend Preview is brought to you by Joe Tomato's, located next to the Galaxy Cinemas on the Sunset Strip. Following each Attack Home Game, fans are encouraged to bring in their ticket stubs for half priced wings and appetizers.
