January 1, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The Generals ring in the New Year this afternoon at home as they take on the Kingston Frontenacs at the Tribute Communities Centre. With a win on Friday against the Steelheads and a tough loss at home on Sunday night against the Ottawa 67's, the Gens record sits at 21-13-2-0 on the season. Looking to start 2019 off on the right foot, the Gens will aim to take down the Fronts in the first game of the new year.
This afternoon's matchup marks the fifth time Oshawa will battle Kingston this season. So far, the Gens have an even series split against the Fronts, with each team taking home two wins and two losses. The last time the teams met in early December, the Gens came away with a huge 5-0 shutout victory with standout performances from Allan McShane and Giovanni Vallati who both notched two goals. Oshawa will aim to take the lead in the season series with Kingston with a big win at home this afternoon.
The Gens remain near the top of the eastern conference to start the new year. Their 44 points in 36 games on the season has them holding fourth place in the eastern conference and second place in the east division behind only the 67's. Meanwhile, the Kingston Frontenacs sit at the bottom of the conference, owning a record of 11-24-1-0 on the season. With the fellow east division club in town, Oshawa will aim to take them down and stay near the top of the east as the season progresses.
A few Gens players have had success so far against the Frontenacs this season and should be looked upon to do the same this afternoon. In the 3 games that Allan McShane has played Kingston this season, the forward has 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points against the eastern rivals. In his fourth game against the Frontenacs tonight, look for McShane to continue to look for the back of the net and contribute up front for Oshawa. Gens defensemen Giovanni Vallati has also had some impressive performances against Kingston this season. With 2 goals and 2 assists in the 4 games against them, Vallati has had success producing offensively against the Fronts and will be looked upon to do the same from the blue line in today's contest.
Join us this afternoon at the Tribute Communities Centre for a 2:05pm puck drop to cheer on the Gens vs. the Kingston Frontenacs! After today's game, the team will head on the road to battle North Bay on Thursday before returning home to square off against the Steelheads on Friday.
