New-Look Legends Open Home Season with Seven-Game Stand

With a new look and a new major league affiliation with the Kansas City Royals, the Lexington Legends will open the 2013 home season with a seven-game stand starting Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Fans will enjoy "the Royal treatment" with a wide variety of promotions, entertainment and special prices in addition to South Atlantic League baseball, as the Legends take on the Asheville Tourists, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, and the Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

"We are so excited to get the 2013 season underway, our first as a Royals affiliate," said Legends general manager Seth Poteat. "This first week-long home stand offers up a little bit of everything that our fans can expect to see all summer long!"

The schedule:

Monday, April 8: The Legends will play their first home game as an affiliate of the Royals when they take on Asheville at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Opening night is presented by Jackey Tax.

Opening night, and all Monday night home games, will be "Kids Eat Free" nights, sponsored by Members Heritage Federal Credit Union. All kids age 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free meal and drink.

The first of 16 Ford Fireworks shows this season will follow the opening game.

Winchester native Lauren Mink, who reached the Hollywood round of television's American Idol in each of the last two years, will sing the national anthem and God Bless America.

Legends' players will wear their new home uniforms for the first time, displaying the new look and logos unveiled in October when Big L rappelled down the 30-story Lexington Financial Center while wearing new Legends gear.

Tuesday, April 9: Legends vs. Asheville, 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night is 36-cent hot dog night. The price is in recognition of the Ford F-150 being the number one selling vehicle for 36 consecutive years.

Wednesday, April 10: Legends vs. Asheville, 10:05 a.m. It's the first of three Education Days in 2013, and groups of students from around central and eastern Kentucky will be at the ballpark.

Thursday, April 11: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m. April 11 is the first Thirsty Thursday of the new season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, presented by Kentucky Ale, and fans can enjoy beer and Pepsi products for one dollar each.

Friday, April 12: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, April 13: Legends vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m. The second Ford Fireworks show of the season will follow the game.

Sunday, April 14: Legends vs. Greenville, 1:35 p.m. Every Sunday home game is a JIF Kids Club Sunday. Kids Club members receive special benefits such as t-shirts, discounts at the Legends Clubhouse store and many more (More information is available at lexingtonlegends.com.) Kids run the bases after each Sunday home game.
